Here We Move Again!

Well, we did it.  We lived our 12 year old dream of living in the big city.  I have been in San Antonio for one year and two months.  Markley has been in San Antonio for six months.  And it just ain't home.  And we really have tried.  I found all the quilt shops and scrapbook stores.  He joined a tennis club and team.  We found a wonderful church...with a pastor from Sudan who talks about Amarillo and Lubbock (first hint).

Then we did the K-Love Love Dare for the 40 days leading up to Valentine's Day.  And it changed our lives!  We grew closer to one another.  And the Lord.  And then I asked Markley, "Why are we here in San Antonio?"  He didn't have an answer.  So we prayed.  And came the peace and the answer from the Lord to go home.  So we prayed some more, to be sure.  And it came back the same.  Go home.  But you know, we have this wonderful house that we love.  I said we were going to stay.  That was Monday.

And then comes in Dave Ramsey.  I listen to him every afternoon and on Tuesday he mentioned that there are houses on every corner and I remembered that in Canyon--home--there are houses there too (second hint).

So, on President's Day, I made the hardest call of my life.  I called my boss from WTAMU, and I asked her to be a reference for me so we could start looking to go home.  She said yes and asked why we were coming home.  I didn't really get into all of this, but told her about the traffic and the busy-ness of the big city and that it just wasn't home.  She understood.  Then the Lord stepped in and made room for me to come back to WT (third hint), in the position I left in 2009!!  I start back May 3rd!  On, On, Buffaloes!

Markley and I trusted in the Lord with all of our hearts and He is taking such good care of us!  Praise Him!

'Tis the Season for...

December Resolutions!

I know that sounds strange, but I haven't been getting much done here and it's time to put a stop to that. So, I thought I would do the resolution thing early, and with a shorter time frame. So here we go:

1. decorate for Christmas
2. finish Mary's Christmas quilt (you know, like before Christmas 2009!)
3. write budget down and determine total of monthly expenses (yep, we're on the Dave Ramsey band-wagon!)
4. get all of the San Antonio bills drafting automatically from the bank account (almost done, thanks Markley!)
5. get a daily/weekly routine down and stick to it
6. work out every weekday that I'm home (done!)
7. make/take tea to work to drink instead of Dr Pepper
8. fix both breakfast and lunch to take to work--no more fast food (really want to use that nice big kitchen)
9. finish wedding cross-stitch (yes, my 1998 wedding)
10. finish Christmas stocking cross-stitch

I have 25 day to do this. I'll let you know how it's going and get a new list together for January.

Markley and I went home this last weekend for his birthday. He's now 3 dozen. We left after work Friday evening and got in between 1and 2am Saturday morning; but we did get to sleep until 10am. That was nice! Then it was off to get the oil changed in Tekky. Markley, Sandy, and Lonnie headed to the Big Texan for his free birthday lunch and I headed to Carla's to stamp.

I decided to crank out some snowflakes on the Big Shot. If it won't snow for real (and stick) here in San Antonio, I'll make my own snowflakes. I'll post pics of those this week. Angela and Cynthia came also and it was a lot of fun! Markley and Sandy came back by after their lunch and helped with the snowflakes. It was a real blizzard upstairs.

For dinner, we went to La Fiesta on Coulter at 7pm and met with lots of friends and we had a great time and leftovers. You know, leftovers make the best breakfast.

Merry Christmas Y'all!

Back Home for Homecoming

Yea, I know that sounds funny. It should be home for homecoming but I have had to learn new words since I moved away. Home is where I go after work everyday (San Antonio). Back home is where we just moved from (Canyon). My home town is where I was born and where I lived with my parents when I was growing up (Amarillo). Confusing, huh? My friend, Julie, used to talk about going home on the weekends and it was confusing b/c it she was talking about going back to see her parents and I was like where do you go at the end of every work day?

This is the lighthouse at Palo Duro Canyon State Park, the largest canyon in Texas and the second largest canyon in the US. It is the prettiest place to visit in the Panhandle.

Okay, so I leave San Antonio and go back home to Canyon for homecoming and we visit the Panhandle Plains Historical Museum and guess what the traveling exhibition at the museum featured? Home! Visit it here.

And then we went back to campus and took pics of all of the buffaloes. This one will always be my favorite b/c he's named after my favorite university president, Dr. Russell C. Long!

This is Thunder X, the live buffalo mascot. When full-grown, this is the largest live mascot in all of sports. The running of Thunder, Jack, and Sadie were my favorite part of any football game!

And the Buffs did win the game! The wagon wheel stays with the Buffs for possibly the last meeting again ENMU. The final record is 12 Wins for the Buffs, 11 for the Greyhounds. On, on Buffaloes!

The Big Move

So, like I've been missing for three weeks...and here's why:

We finally sold the house in Canyon. YEA! I flew back home (all the new phrases you have to learn) and helped Markley finish packing. We rented a 26' U-Haul truck of all of our stuff. It wouldn't even fit in the driveway! We didn't fill it up, but it was nice to have all the room. We left Canyon on Saturday morning after one last garage sale romp with my sister Carla (what fun!) and were on our way back to San Antonio. You know, driving one of those isn't easy...especially when you never have, when it doesn't have cruise control, and when you have a cat that just will not let the medication work!

We got home (San Antonio) early enough to start putting some things in storage, just enough to realize that we couldn't do it ourselves. So, early Sunday morning we hired B&B Movers, who were WONDERFUL to help with the big stuff. They also helped get the furniture that came to my apartment up the stairs.

This is what my apartment looked like before and after the move:

The bad part is that Markley had to fly back to Canyon before we could get all the boxes arranged/unpacked at the apartment. The good part is that I am no longer sleeping on the Aztek's air mattress, but on my select comfort mattress on my real bed! And Angel is with me. She is adjusting well, but she does want to go outside and we have decided that since we are still in an apartment, that's it just not a good idea. I do love having her to come home to everyday. Now, I'm not talking to myself!
